Totally!
UNAwheel Maxi offers two battery types:
1) IATA-compliant 8 Ah (288 Wh) battery
2) 12.8 Ah (460 Wh) battery that is not suitable for air traveling
You can either purchase the device with 8 Ah battery in the first place or purchase Maxi with 12.8 Ah for everyday use and order a spare 8 Ah battery for traveling via plane. The nominal energy of 8 Ah UNAwheel Maxi battery is 288 Wh which is below the IATA limit of 300 Wh (per battery). It meets the requirements of the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria, Part III, subsection 38.3 and thus is suitable for air transportation by passengers according to IATA DGR Chapter 2.3.2.4.
To ensure hassle-free traveling experience (for you) and safe transportation (for the device), please follow these steps:1. Notify the airline company at least 72 hours before the flight.
2. Provide the necessary information about the device - the UNAwheel Maxi is an assistive device with a removable Li-ion battery 8 Ah (288 Wh).
3. Print the UNAwheel Maxi
Air Transportation Certificate for passengers and take it to the airport.
4. Check in for the fight and inform the airport staff that you'll remove the battery at the airplane entrance.
5. Drive to the airplane entrance on your wheelchair with the UNAwheel attached. When at the airplane entrance, turn off the unit, remove the battery (watch this
video or look into the
UNAwheel Maxi User Manual to know how to do that properly) and pack it into the battery transportation bag.
6. Pass the UNAwheel Maxi unit and your wheelchair to the airport staff.
7. Proceed to the cabin with the Maxi battery packed in the travel bag.
Enjoy your flight!
